Belgrade, 1995. A hot summer by Lake Sava. Two young men, Sergije and Nikola, have returned defeated from the war. They work as guards on the beach, renting out beach-chairs and parasols. Nikola is Bosnian, Sergije Croatian. They haven't a penny to their name, and are dependent on Boss Lady, a swindler involved in all kinds of dirty deals. Sergije, who has fallen in love with Sonia, begins to search for his mother and sister who are in a refugee-camp. Meanwhile, Sonia has to prostitute herself in order to support her large family. During this time of economic crisis, it is a struggle merely to survive. Nikola is quick to pick up on all the «new trends», while Sergije realizes that the only way he can help his family is by turning to crime.
