Kastoria, a region in western Macedonia, in the year 1900. Greeks, Turks, Jews and other tethnic groups are living together under Ottoman occupation, amidst the instability and confusion brought on by the Greco-Turkish war of 1897. It is under these conditions, that a fisherman's family, living on the Lake of Kastoria, is trying to make ends meet. The daughter works at a fur workshop, the younger boy goes to Greek school, while Christos, the eldest, helps his father fish. The apparently tranquil life of the family will be disrupted by Christos's meeting with a wounded rebel who has been abandoned by his comrades.

Biography
He studied film in Athens and London, and started his career by working as assistant director on numerous features.
He has directed documentaries and commercials,
and has worked extensively in television, writing, directing and editing. The Flower of the Lake is his third feature film.
