  • The film, which took over 15 years to be completed, records the excavations carried out by the archaeologist Professor Yiannis Sakellarakis on Mount Ida, at an altitude of 1,600 meters at the Idaion Cave, and 400 meters lower down at Zominthos. The Idaion Cave, according to mythology and literary documentation dating back to antiquity, was the place where Zeus, supreme among the gods, grew up in secrecy, protected from the rage of his father, Cronus, whom, it had been prophesied, he would dethrone. From 3000 BC to about 500 AD, for 35 centuries, this impressive cave on the eastern slope of Mount Ida was a sacred place not only to the Minoans and Greeks, but also to the entire Eastern Mediterranean. Since then, and for many centuries, the Idaion Cave remained forgotten, and only in 1885, when excavations began, was the way opened for its study and reinstatement.
