She was born in Budapest, in 1955. After acquiring a degree from Budapest University of Economics, she studied at the Budapest Academy of Theater and Film Art, from 1980 to 1984. In 1979, she became a member of the world-famous Bela-Bal?zs-Studio. Her first feature, My 20th Century, won the prestigious Camera d'Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and was subsequently released widely in Europe and the United States, where it won fourth place in the national critics' poll of the year's best films. My Twentieth Century also won awards at the Edinburgh, Las Vegas and Budapest Film Festivals. This promising debut was followed, in 1994, by Magic Hunter, which was screened at the Venice Film festival. Her third feature, Tam?s and Juli, which recounts a young couple's idyllic love affair in a small mining town at the dawn of the new millenium, was made part of the series launched by Arte, "L'an 2000 vu par..." Her latest film, Simon the Magician, has been screened at film festivals around the world, and won several awards at the Hungarian Film Week.
