  • Fifteen-year-old Tom and his 18-year-old sister Jessie have only recently moved with their parents from London to the peace and tranquility of Devon. Tom finds his new life lonely and boring. Their father is busy with his business, and their mother is about to give birth to her third child. Coming home from shopping with his mother one evening, Tom happens to catch a glimpse of a sign of abnormal affection between Jessie and their father. This leads Tom to suspect that they are hiding a dreadful secret. He confronts his sister about his suspicion, but Jessie emphatically dismisses his accusations. For Tom, the war zone is at the heart of his seemingly happy middle-class family. Isolated, confused, and consumed by adolescent anger, Tom is determined to reveal the truth.
