In a little village not far from Samarkand, 17-year-old Mamlakat dreams of becoming an actress. On a moonlit night, she is seduced by a mysterious stranger, who claims to be a friend of Tom Cruise. The man disappears in the dark, leaving Mamlakat pregnant. For her father Safar and brother Nasreddin, the restoration of the family honor is a matter of pride, and so they set off with Mamlakat to find the person responsible. In Mamlakat's belly, Khabibulla, whom his mother conceived on that fateful night, also shares the incredible adventures and curious accidents that befall the three in search for his father. Luna Papa is a fantastic and tragicomic journey through the wild landscapes of Central Asia, where tradition and superstition are juxtaposed with the chaos of the modern world.

Biography
Born in Dushanbe (nowadays capital of Tajikistan), in 1965. He began working as a TV and radio reporter, and then as assistant director on a TV series. He went on to study filmmaking at the VGIK in Moscow. His second feature film, Kosh ba Kosh, won the Silver Lion at the 1993 Venice Film Festival.
