  • Since it may potentially touch upon sexual frustration and incest, adolescence has rarely been tackled in Egyptian cinema, even though about 60% of the population is under 20. The year 1990 sees the outbreak of the Gulf War and the dawn of a new world order, fertile ground for both fundamentalism and frenzied consumerism. The poor get poorer and the marginalized more so. Amidst all this confusion, the most coherent discourse for an adolescent is that of fundamentalism, as it satisfies both his spirit of rebellion and his need for identity. Could this be an open door for many young people?
