The evocation of a Portuguese province of the Northeast, whose historical and secular roots are often indistinguishable from those of the neighbouring country, both regions being joined by the River Douro. The children, the mothers, the women, the elderly, the houses, the earth... Everyday life; the imaginary; trades on the verge of becoming extinct; agriculture as the only form of sustenance... Erosion. Time and distance. The presence of absentees, of all those who have left towards other horizons. This is a poem inspired by Tras-os-Montes, performed by its inhabitants. |

Antonio Reis
He was born in 1927. Self-taught in filmmaking and sculpting, he was also a poet, and collaborated with important Portuguese directors (de Oliveira, Rocha). In 1974, he began his association with Cordeiro, which developed into one of the most singular artistic expresions of European film. He died in 1991.
Margarida Martins Cordeiro
Born in Tras-os-Montes, she worked as a psychiatrist. In 1974 she became Reis's associate. Their films were based on their personal experiences and memories.
