In any city, thousands of stories unfold simultaneously. One of these is the story of Cathy, Irish and Catholic, who has been married to Pedro, a successful lawyer with dubious connections and a Maoist past, for twenty years. Cathy discovers she is HIV positive. Pedro has been unfaithful to her. She throws him out. Her house is invaded by Daniel, a young junkie who steals from her and whom she tries to protect. Little by little, Cathy begins to lose control of her life. Her work doesn't fulfill her anymore. Her world starts coming apart at the seams. The police are looking for Daniel. Cathy roams the streets of Lisbon, among people who all seem to be shouting. And then the ground shakes...

Born in Lisbon, in 1936, he studied history and philosophy.
In the early sixties, he took courses at the Cinematheque Francaise and the Institut de Filmologie at the Sorbonne, going on to attend the London School of Film Technique.
He worked as a film critic for various newspapers
and magazines, co-founded the Centro Portugues de Cinema, the Lisbon Film School, and the Grupo Zero Cooperative,
and was president of the Portuguese Film Institute.
