In the summer of 1994, Alvin Ray Straight, resident of rural Laurens, Iowa, embarked on a trip covering 350 miles, to visit his ailing brother across the Mississippi in Mt. Zion, Wisconsin. He made his trip in a '66 John Deere riding lawn mower, and it took him six weeks.

He is also an occasional actor.
