"Beauty of the Day"

Catherine Deneuve's star has been shining brightly for over 40 years in the world of international cinematography. Mysterious, charming, and enigmatic, the French star has twinkled with her brilliant beauty in over 80 films in which she stared, tracing a remarkable cinematographic path.

She appears in the cinema at a very young age, in 1958. She becomes famous with Rose Vandime's film, Le vice et la Vertu (1961), and overnight conquers the world of cinema with Jac Demi's, Obreles tou Hervurgu (1964- Gold Phoenix award at the Cannes Festival). Her unsurpassable performances follow in the films, Apostrophe (1965), by Roman Polanski, and Beauty of the Day (1967), by Louis Buniuel. She unfolds her acting talent in these films and becomes established as a leading actress of her times.

In 1969 she collaborates with Fransoua Trifo in Mississippi Siren, and in 1970 in Tristana, by Louis Buniuel. Her brilliant performance passes into cinematographic anthology as a unique moment in the art of acting.

Inexhaustible and productive, she continues to work on both sides of the Atlantic in huge productions with international casts, as well as in small productions with well-established creators, lesser known ones, or even new directors, while brightening cinematographic images with her alluring aura.

In 1980 she adds another glorious performance to her credit, in the awarded film by Fransoua Trifo, "The last metro", and in 1992 she is nominated for an academy award for her role in the film Indochina, by Rezi Vernie.

During the course of her career she supports French, and in general, European cinematography, which will determine her as indisputable star of international acclaim.

In recent years she has been collaborating with significant directors, such as Manoel de Oliveira, Raul Ruiz, Andre Tesine, and others. She was awarded at the Venice Festival of 1998, for her performance in Nikol Garcia's film Place Vendom. The same year, the Berlin Festival honored her with the Gold Bear award for the sum of her contributions in cinematography, and UNESCO appointed her as Counselor for the preservation of cinematographic heritage.

An actress with a rich talent, and a wide dimension of acting ability, able to move naturally and comfortably between her different roles, while retaining her dazzling beauty and mysterious allure through the passing of time, Catherine Deneuve, diachronic diva and undeniable master of the cinema screen, remains to this day -40 years after her first appearance- the "Beauty of the Day".
