SYNOPSIS

In a crowded town square and under a blazing sun, a trade-unionist is assassinated. Suspicion falls on Sofianos, a former police collaborator who is now in disfavour. Sofianos tries in vain to prove his innocence. A friend of his who is a member of parliament comes to visit him in his cell, and, in desperation, Sofianos takes him hostage and threatens to kill him unless he is released. It is the eve of the 1936 election, and the Metaxas government, which is barely clinging to power thanks to a difficult compromise between the Rightist and Centrist powers, finds itself in an extremely delicate position...

The film won the awards for direction and photography at the 1972 Thessaloniki Film Festival, as well as the FIPRESCI award at the Forum of the Berlin Film Festival.
