Naive young Tanya and her son Artiom arrive in Stansted airport from Russia and are immediately targeted by immigration officials as a suspicious case. Tanya hopes to be met by Mark, an Englishman she expects to marry, but there's no sign of him at the arrivals. Threatened with deportation back to Moscow, Tanya claims political asylum. She and Artiom are driven under police escort to the seaside resort of Stonehaven, to a grey holding area for refugees. There, she meets Alfie, an arcade manager who is immediately taken with her...

Biography
He was born in Warsaw, in 1957. A well-known documentary filmmaker, his credits include Twockers, Serbian Epics
and Tripping with Zhirinovsky, all produced by BBC.
His documentary Dostoevsky's Travels won the RTS Award and the Italia, while From Moscow to Pietushki received
the International Emmy Award and another Prix Italia. In 1997, he made his first feature, The Stringer, which was shown
at the Cannes Film Festival.
