Music from the films by Theo. Angelopoulos
16th and 17th November, at 21:30 hours
Megaron Concert Hall
Thessaloniki
On the 16th and 17th November, at 21:30 hours, at the Megaron Concert Hall of Thessaloniki, Eleni Karaindrou will give two concerts within the framework of the tribute to Theo Angelopoulos organised by the 41st Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
The concert will include compositions by Eleni Karaindrou for the six last films by Theo Angelopoulos: Voyage to Cythera, The Beekeeper, Landscape in the Mist, The Suspended Step of the Stork, Ulysses' Gaze and Eternity and a Day.
Eleni Karaindrou 's music has been internationally acclaimed both by critics and by audiences, and has acquired its autonomy through records and concerts. However, international reviews have also remarked upon the uniqueness of her relationship with Theo Angelopoulos' cinema and the reference to it has been constant since the beginning of their collaboration, seventeen years ago, in 1983.
Eleni Karaindrou' s concerts will be performed by the Patras Orchestra, with leading soloists who have always worked with her:
Vangelis Christopoulos, oboe; Nikos Ghinos, clarinet; Stella Gadedi, flute; Socratis Anthis, trumpet; Spyros Kazianis, bassoon; Vangelis Skouras, French horn; Aris Dimitriadis, mandolin; Natalia Mihailidou, piano.
The dramaturgy of the concert will attempt a cinematic intertwining of the symphonic works, by connecting atmospheres from the films, coloured by the accordion (Anastasia Georgaki) and the harp (Maria Bildea), and also by the alternations of rhythm and dynamics emphasised by the presence of percussion (Dimitris Desyllas, Christos Liatsos). The concerts, in which Eleni Karaindrou herself will play the piano, will be conducted by Alexandros Myrat.
