Paulo Branco
He was born in Lisbon, in 1950, and studied chemical engineering. In 1971 he left
for London, and in 1973 he went to Paris. He entered the field of film in 1974, when he was made in charge of programming at the Olympic Cinema, together with Frederic Mitterand. Later on, as a distributor for Action Republique, he acquainted audiences with filmmakers
that were destined to become important names in European cinema. In 1979, he began
his career as a producer; the directors whose films he has produced, include:
Manoel de Oliveira (14 films), Wim Wenders, Raoul Ruiz, Alain Tanner, Werner Schroeter, Jo~ao Cesar Monteiro, Jo~ao Botelho, Christine Laurent, Pedro Costa, Sharunas Bartas,
and others.
