The film depicts a series of events with no apparent logic. A clerk is fired in a degrading way, an immigrant is violently attacked in a busy street, a magician makes a mess of his routine, and Karl sets fire to his furniture shop to cash in from the insurance. Biography
He was born in Goteborg, Sweden, in 1943. He studied literature and then film. While his first feature was hailed
as a masterpiece, his second film flopped, and Andersson turned to directing commercials. Today he is considered one of the leading directors of commercials. In the late eighties,
he returned to the big screen via the short film.
Songs from the Second Floor won the Jury Prize
at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.
