The residents of a remote village have rioted, after discovering that oil rights to the land they have lived on for centuries were sold out from underneath them. Terrorised by thugs, their property invaded by machinery, the polluted landscape losing fish and game, most citizens have grimly accepted the situation and moved to factory jobs in the town. But a few elderly men are more profoundly offended. They form a vigilante party to hunt down the four officials who put their seals on the sale contract without the locals' consent...

Biography
He was born in the Ukraine, in 1960, and grew up in Central Asia. He served as an officer in a tank column of the Red Army. He worked as a metallurgical physicist, before going on to study screenwriting at Moscow's VGIK. Outskirts
is his directorial debut.
