Frank, a teenager who is left an orphan, goes to stay with his Uncle Charles, a wealthy mearchant of men's clothes, who lives in Munich and is married to Martha, an Italian beauty. Naive, clumsy and extremely short-sighted, Frank rents a room at a boarding-house, starts work at his uncle's shop and develops a crush on his seductive aunt. At the boarding-house, Frank meets Professor Ritter who, having invented a type of synthetic skin, proposes that Charles finance his invention in order to make mannequins for his shop windows.
