SYNOPSIS

In the words of a famous Mexican song, "the ruination of men are damned women..." The ruination of the hero of this black comedy effectively takes the shape of two women and baseball. Two women who fight for the body of the man they shared in life and a game with an unforeseeable outcome... Expanded by the veteran Mexican director from an earlier short film, The Ruination of Men premiered in this year's San Sebastian Film Festival, winning the Golden Shell for Best Film (Ripstein's second after Principio y fin, in 1993), the FIPRESCI prize and the jury award for best screenplay, penned by the director;s wife and regular collaborator, Paz Alicia Garcßadiego.

Arturo Ripstein

Biography
He was born in Mexico, in 1943. In 1962 he worked as assistant director on Luis Buèuel's The Exterminating Angel, and in 1965 he made his own first film, Tiempo de morir, based on a script by Gabriel Garcßa Mðrquez and Carlos Fuentes. Such is Life is his 23rd feature film and his 9th collaboration with Paz Alicia Garcßadiego. He is one of the most important filmmakers in the world today.
