The International Competition section programmed by Festival director Michel Demopoulos and composed by 16 first or second films by new directors include this year an unusual high number of 5 films from the Balkan countries. Those productions in combination with the 11 films which compose the highly regarded Balkan Survey section, reflect an increasing quality and quantity output of filming activity in the region.
