Filmmaker, poet, boxer, painter. It in this latter capacity that Jerzy Skolimowski, one of the leading artists of contemporary cinema, will be appearing at the 42nd International Thessaloniki Film Festival. Using paint and brushes, rather than a camera, he gives shape and form to his artistic vision and expresses his world-view. Skolimowski's paintings, abstract and yet so representational (his forms and landscapes are truly unique), constitute an extraordinary artistic achievement, where the visual perfection of the composition co-exists with a passionate quest for meaning. His large-scale paintings reveal a vision that is rooted in the world of cinema, a "film" projection on the screen of his inner world.

Skolimowski has held solo exhibitions in Europe and North America. His work is on show at the National Museum in Krakow, while numerous of his paintings have been acquired by private art collectors, such as Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper.

Skolimowski's Paintings 2001 exhibition, which includes tableaux from his most recent work, began its journey in Venice, where it was held during the Film Festival.
