Thessaloniki, 12 - 16 November 2002

The fourth dimension of the moving image is already speeding through the information highway propelled by the machinery of internet media. Many believe that multimedia will be the '8th Art' that will change the way we approach content creation, distribution, and the relationship of art and the viewer, as the artistic expression becomes more interactive and accessible.
Film and video production, multimedia and the perception of place and time through these new means, have been created specially to travel through the optic channels, which can be accessed and experienced from any portal anywhere in the world.

The events of e-magic 2002 that have been programmed under the umbrella of the 43rd International Thessaloniki Film Festival, aim to present a broad cross-section of artistic expression that is being developed and exists within the internet, highlighting in particular the development of audiovisual works, interactive applications and filmmaking.
e-magic 2002 hopes to expose the patrons of the film festival to the innovative developments in the audiovisual industry as these developments are driven by the internet; and to establish a discourse that examines the way in which these new creative communication means impact and permeate our daily lives. There are many people who believe that we are already traveling through a new age of creative and communication expression that opens new paths but also raises new issues and theoretical concerns.
e-magic 2002 is the inaugural event which will establish an annual international conference and competition festival for interactive and multimedia works to be held each year as a parallel side event of the International Thessaloniki Film Festival.
