MARCO BELLOCCHIO: SKETCHES FOR CINEMA

The exhibition of the sketches and illustrations of Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio, (which will be open throughout the duration of the 43rd International Thessaloniki Film Festival) consolidates the Retrospective of the filmmaker's work to be presented at this year's festival. The exhibition features the sketches and illustrations of the filmmaker, his expressions of inspiration, during the planning stages of his films. The sketches and illustrations are particularly significant because they reveal the creativity and vision of a disciplined filmmaker, a creator who imagines the entire structure of his films and who is able to depict this structure not only the medium of film but also on paper.

The exhibition is a respectful tribute to the essence and nature of a complete body of work and comprises a selection of sketches and illustrations from some of his films.

Amongst the 44 works in total to be exhibited, the public will have the opportunity to discover and view sketches, illustrations, story boards, pages of scripts with the filmmaker's handwritten notes and pictures pertaining to each one of the abovementioned films.

The exhibition also features the original manuscripts and his notes of Bellochio's first foray into the world of theatre with Shakespeare's 'Timo'.

The exhibition Marco Bellochio: Sketches for Cinema was presented for the first time at the Locarno International Film Festival, although it should be noted that the exhibition to be hosted by the 43rd International Thessaloniki Film Festival will also feature works of the filmmaker not presented in Italy.
