The festival is assigned by law to screen all local films produced during
the year in the Panorama of Greek Cinema section. Their screening will
entitle them to vie for the State Cinema Awards which will be handed out
during a special gala the day following the Festival's international award
ceremony.
Eighteen local fiction films plus six documentaries, backed by the Greek
Film Center and private producers, will be screened this year.
Encouraged by the positive response from international guests to the The
Greek Film Department introduced last year, which operated as an informal
Film Market for local pictures, the festival is further developing this
initiative, introducing formal Market Screenings reserved for the
international film business executives present in Thessaloniki.
This effort will be backed by the large promotion campaign traditionally
organized at the festival by the Greek Film Center and its Hellas Film
promotion and distribution department.
