TRIBUTE IN HONOUR OF GIANNIS DALIANIDIS
Yesterday, Monday night in the "Pavlos Zannas" hall at the Olympion theatre in an intensely emotional atmosphere, the Thessaloniki Film Festival honoured the most popular director of early Greek cinema, Giannis Dalianidis.
In his presentation of Mr. Dalianidis, the director of the Festival, Michel Demopoulos, said: "The Festival would like to welcome and pay tribute to the original prime representative of old Greek cinema, Giannis Dalianidis".
The ceremony was preceded by a five-minute video coordinated by Iasonas Triantafillidis, in which the audience had the chance to see all of the old great actors that left their mark in Dalianidis' films.
"Popular myth"
Theatre critic, Kostas Georgousopoulos and journalist and cinema critic, Rozita Sokou spoke affectionately about the director.
Kostas Georgousopoulos characterised Giannis Dalianidis as a "popular myth of cinema". Rozita Sokou in her own unique way spoke about her long friendship with Giannis Dalianidis, who, as she said, created his own style of cinema, "the Greek musical, which no one else has been able to repeat".
"I owe it to him"
Before presenting the Golden Alexander award to Giannis Dalianidis, the President of the Board of Directors of the International Thessaloniki Film Festival, Theo Angelopoulos, referred to personal moment he had with the director. "At one point we, the younger directors, had to start doing things in our own way. One day before I began shooting The Reconstitution, we met at the house of one of Giannis' assistants. Giannis was the only one to show up that evening and he wished me success and a safe trip. What I'm about to give him, I owe him".
