TRIBUTE GALA FOR
MARCO BELLOCCHIO
Yesterday, Thursday, November 14th at the Olympion theatre, Italian director Marco Bellocchio was honoured by the Thessaloniki Film Festival with a gala event following the screening of his film, My mother's smile. The occasion was in the framework of the Italian director's retrospective which is presented this year by the Festival.

The director of the Festival, Michel Demopoulos, welcomed the director saying: "We are honoured and happy to have Marco Bellocchio with us in the screening of his latest film, My mother's smile, which was very successful in Italy last season. The film received rave reviews and enjoyed a large audience turnout".

The director spoke about his film saying that, "It deals with problems that are common throughout Europe. The film's original title is 'Religion time'. In Italian schools religion is not a compulsory lesson but most students take it anyway. Throughout Europe and the rest of the world the film goes by the title My mother's smile, which is actually its subtitle. This is because the leading actor's smile constitutes the key to comprehending the film".
