The atmosphere is tense and unsettled.
In the cramped space of the single-room apartment, every movement escalates into an argument and every trivial disagreement is inevitably blown out of proportion.
Iren's husband, Laci, is away doing his military service, while she works at a sausage-making plant and has to put up with the daily nagging and constant disapproval of her in-laws.
Humiliated and fed up, she struggles in vain to move her name up on the municipality's waiting lists for available housing.
With Laci's return from the army, tensions between the couple and dire financial problems make the situation even more unbearable...
