He was born in North Kyongsang province of South Korea, in 1966. He studied fine arts in Paris. His feature film Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring received an award at the Locarno IFF, while Samaritan Girl won the Silver Bear (Best Director Award) at the 2004 Berlin IFF.

SUMMARY
Tae-suk drifts around on his motorcycle to find empty houses to stay in. He goes from door to door and puts up ad flyers on the keyholes of each house. He later breaks into the house where the flyer is not removed, assuming that the owner is away. Tae-suk lives there till the owners return, but never steals or does any damage. In fact, he repairs things, does the laundry, and puts everything back in its place when he leaves. One day, he breaks into the house of Sun-hwa, a woman trapped in an abusive marriage. Tae-suk doesnąt realize that Sun-hwa is at home when he breaks in. She hides in the dark and watches him silently...
