CROSSROADS (November 23-25) is a Co-Production Forum, launched in 2005 by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The purpose of Crossroads is to support the producers of fiction films that contain a link to the Mediterranean and Balkan regions by introducing them to a network of financiers, co-producers and leading industry specialists from all over the world.
The program is varied and provides the opportunity to meet, formally and informally, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and consultants who can offer confidential advice on everything from legal matters to strategies for raising money.
From among the more than one hundred projects received, the selection is based on the quality of the script, the creative team and the likelihood of being made.
All the selected projects are either produced or co-produced by a country in the Mediterranean and Balkan region, or are movies that contain story elements based in this region.
The selected projects come from the following countries: Greece, Serbia,Turkey, Israel, Bulgaria, Morocco, France, Spain, Italy, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
Crossroads was successfully launched last year as a way to bring together films in development with industry experts and buyers.Among the selections were Zion and his Brother (Yoav Roeh, Israel), which afterwards was selected for the Sundance Screenwriters' Lab and Akamas (Panicos Crysanthou, Cyprus), which has recently been selected to screen at the 2006 Venice Film Festival.
As a result of the positive reputation that Crossroads has established, the prestigious "Club des Producteurs" (European Producers Club) will actively participate in the making of this year's organization. The Club will offer its expertise and connections by organizing on behalf of CROSSROADS two conferences of international interest. Executive Producer Karen Adler will act as Match Maker between Producers and possible Financiers.
CROSSROADS takes place for three days from November 23 to 25 this year, the closing weekend of the Festival.
