HONORARY CEREMONY CHEN KAIGE
Yesterday, Saturday November 25th in the Festival’s honorary ceremony, prominent Chinese director, Chen Kaige was presented with the Alexander award with the attendance of the Festival’s Director, Despina Mouzaki and its President, Georges Corraface.
Georges Corraface thanked Mr. Kaige for visiting the Festival and described him as a director that teaches through his films. “Kaige is one of those people who believes that art can change the world”, said Mr. Corraface. Mrs. Mouzaki noted that, “Kaige’s cinema is full of vibrant colours, passion, splendour and an inwardness” and described Mr. Kaige as “a great image narrator”.
Receiving his award, Chen Kaige noted that he admires Greece and the Greek civilisation, especially mentioning the “birthplace of Alexander the Great, Macedonia”, as he said. “Cinema has the power to bring the East and West closer and to help people change the world”, he added. Finally, Mr. Kaige mentioned that he wanted to share his award with his collaborators and his family, and especially, his first son, whose name is “Alexander”, just like the award he received.
