On behalf of the Jury, Gyula Gazdag, the artistic director of the Sundance Film Institute, mentioned that the most valuable part of the institution is not the awards, but the discourse that develops between screenwriters, producers and directors who are given the opportunity to present their ideas. As he said, “the Balkan Fund aims to inspire them, so when they have the chance to meet up again with the decision makers they will be able to have a better understanding of what investors are looking for and articulate their ideas in a more persuasive manner”. He also added that it is important for filmmakers to see their participation in the Balkan Fund as a step forward, something that will help them in the development of their screenplays. “During the three days of the Balkan Fund, we had the wonderful chance to discover very attractive ideas from very interesting people”, said Mr. Gazdag.

This year, its third in operation, the Balkan Fund proceedings included twelve projects that were selected from among 50 candidates. The Balkan Fund aims to help filmmakers from the Balkan region and develop their future films with the best possible professional specifications.
