CROSSROADS CO-PRODUCTION FORUM
November 8-11 2016

Application deadline JULY 31st 2016

CROSSROADS is the Co-Production Forum, organized by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Mediterranean, Balkan and Visegrad producers with a feature film script are given the chance to meet a new network of financiers, co-producers and leading industry specialists. CROSSROADS introduces producers and directors to a variety of industry professionals from all over the world. The programme is varied and provides the opportunity to meet, formally and informally, producers, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and consultants. CROSSROADS’ goal is to support the producers of feature-length fiction film projects that contain a link to the Mediterranean and Balkan regions as well as Central Europe. Qualifying features will be produced or co-produced by a country in this area or are movies that contain story elements based in these regions.

Headed by Marie-Pierre Macia and together with the CROSSROADS team, we are looking for feature-length fiction film projects that contain a link to the Mediterranean and Balkan region or Visegrad countries. They should either be produced or co-produced by a country within these regions or contain elements in the story that link them to these regions. Projects should have a producer attached and could be in all stages of pre-production. Our main focus in the selection procedure will be on projects that present a high possibility of being realized, combining this quality with artistic elements.

In this framework, CROSSROADS has come to add an important action in the direction of aiding and promoting local talent. CROSSROADS has a particular focus to countries from the regions with a low production capacity. The constant goal of the project is to scout for new talent in these countries and to provide producers with opportunities to make their work known in a wider market. Through the actions of the Forum, the selected producers are aided in their efforts to promote their projects outside their countries and to network with potential partners. The joint involvement of countries from the Mediterranean, the Balkan and Visegrad countries signals the start of a new relationship between countries, which, although separated geographically by the Mediterranean, are culturally united through the international language of cinema.

Countries that are eligible to submit are: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, FYROM, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey.

In its previous editions, CROSSROADS included projects by filmmakers such as Deniz Gamze Erguven, Annemarie Jacir, Amos Gitai, Radu Jude, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Yesim Ustaoglu, Yannis Economides, Florin Serban, Mohamed Khan, Michel Kammoun, Dover Kosashvili, Zeki Demirkubuz, and Peter Brosens & Jessica Woodworth among others.

Among the completed Crossroads films are Mustang by Deniz Gamze Erguven (France/Germany/Turkey), As I Open My Eyes by Layla Bouzid, Motherland by Senem Tüzen (Turkey/Greece), Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me by Hadar Morag, When I Saw You by Annemarie Jacir (Palestine/Jordan/Greece), Ajami by Scandar Copti, Yaron Shani (Israel/Germany), These are the Rules by Ognjen Sviličic, Everybody in Our Family by Radu Jude (Romania/Netherlands) (Croatia/France/Serbia/FYROM), Luton by Michalis Konstantatos (Greece), Amnesty by Bujar Alimani (Albania/Greece/France), Barbarians by Ivan Ikić (Serbia/Montenegro/Slovenia),  Süt by Semih Kaplanoglu (Turkey).
