Crossroads
CROSSROADS CO-PRODUCTION FORUM
THE DEADLINE FOR THE 6th EDITION OF CROSSROADS IS AUGUST 31st 2010
CROSSROADS is the Co-Production Forum, organized by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Its next 6th edition will take place in Thessaloniki during our next Festival in November 2010. Mediterranean and Balkan producers with a feature film script are given the chance to meet a new network of financiers, co-producers and leading industry specialists. CROSSROADS introduces producers and directors to a variety of industry professionals from all over the world. The programme is varied and provides the opportunity to meet, formally and informally, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and consultants. CROSSROADS’ goal is to support the producers of feature-length fiction film projects that contain a link to the Mediterranean and Balkan regions. Qualifying features will be produced or co-produced by a country in this area or are movies that contain story elements based in this region.
Headed by Marie Pierre Macia and together with the CROSSROADS team, we are looking for feature-length fiction film projects that contain a link to the Mediterranean or Balkan region. They should either be produced or co-produced by a country within these regions or contain elements in the story that link them to these regions. Projects should have a producer attached and could be in all stages of production. Our main focus in the selection procedure will be on projects that present a high possibility of being realized, combining this quality with artistic elements.
In this framework, CROSSROADS has come to add an important action in the direction of aiding and promoting local talent. CROSSROADS has a particular focus to countries from the regions with a low production capacity. The constant goal of the project is to scout for new talent in these countries and to provide producers with opportunities to make their work known in a wider market. Through the actions of the Forum, the selected producers are aided in their efforts to promote their projects outside their countries and to network with potential partners. The joint involvement of countries from Mediterranean and Balkans ensures the programme signals the start of a new relationship between countries, which, although separated geographically by the Mediterranean, are culturally united through the international language of cinema.
In its three previous editions, CROSSROADS included projects by filmmakers such as, Raoul Ruiz, Atiq Rahimi, Yesim Ustaoglu, Constantine Giannaris, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Alexis Alexiou, Sophia Zornitsa, Dover Kosashvili, Anne-Marie Jacir, Semih Kaplanoglu and Radu Jude.
In 2006, CROSSROADS introduced the Crossroads Award accompanied by the amount of a maximum €10.000.
In 2008 for the first time a Greek project won the award, America Square by Yannis Sakarides, together with False Witness by well-known Bulgarian Iglika Triffonova.
In 2009 the awarded projects were Pasqua by Ivan Marinovic (Slovenia/Montenegro) and a special mention was given to The Odyssey of a Vagabond Princess by Altinai Petrovitch Njegosh (France/ Montenegro).
The MFI Script 2 Film Workshops decided to award a full scholarship to the film project Damascenes, written, directed and produced by Rana Kazkaz and Anas Khalaf, (Syria/ France) and a semi scholarship to the film project The Judgment written, directed and produced by Stefan Komandarev (Bulgaria).
Crossroads is partners with Producer’s Network, Sofia Meetings and MFI Script 2 Film Workshops.
