This section, probably the most important of this year's Festival, is consisted of a number of parallel events, all of which are aimed at raising the audience's awareness on issues of human rights and children.

In particular, the 4th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century, with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Greece, has organised the following events:

· Focus on Children: a series of documentaries dedicated to the condition of children in the Third World and developing countries and their plight in the face of indifference, social injustice and cruelty from a hostile and insensitive world.

· An Honorary Award will be presented to the acclaimed Iranian director Mohsem Makhmalbaf for his unique work as a filmmaker and his social contribution to the issue of immigrants from Afghanistan.

· A Videoconference with the world-renowned linguist and philosopher, Noam Chomsky, dealing with the issue of "Human Rights and Children".

· A one-day Conference with the subject of "Human Rights: Children". Participants of the conference are Mohsem Makhmalbaf (director, Iran), Margarita Papandreou (President of NGO, Greece), Peter Wintonick (director, Canada), Yvonne Bezera de Mello (activist, Brazil), Patricia McCarthy (education specialist, Canada), Zisis Papademetriou (Professor, Greece) and Nikos Papageorgiou (President of the Greek Comission of UNESCO).

· Telethon for the fundraising of Mohsem Makhmalbaf's project on the education of Afghani children. An account has been opened for the collection of money.
