TRIBUTES / APOSTOLOS KRIONAS
|
Apostolos Krionas is a genuine documentarist. He has been serving the field of Greek documentary for the past thirty five years and always remains active and restless.
The ethnographic interest of his subjects and his cinematic style has offered us valuable images not only of Macedonia but also of the greater Balkan area. In these images he records, with minimalism and sensitivity past and present
customs, as in Winds and Within the Walls, immigration and the desertion of Northern Greece in the 1950's-60's, (It was a Holiday), and aspects of its artistic tradition (Modern Naive Greeks). Finally, he highlights the presence of
Hellenism in the Balkans and the bonds that connect the people of the peninsula (Hail Neighbor, Balkan Merchant).
With this small selection from Apostolos Krionas' vast work, the 5th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century, gives the audience the opportunity to get to know and to enjoy on the big screen some of his award-winning
and distinguished films. |
