TRIBUTES / MARIA HADJIMICHALI PAPALIOU
|
Maria Hatzimihali-Papaliou made her dynamic documentary debut in 1977 with the Struggle of the Blind, a film of scathing social criticism and concern, with which she
joined the ranks of the blind and their struggle. In the same spirit she made the series Portraits of Women, where she recorded the female voice, connecting individual circumstances with the general condition of women at that time in
our country. Following that, she moved on to historical documentaries, filming a series of places (Lycia, Macedonia, Ipeiros etc.), by combining travelogue with the words of historians - and with other subjects as well, such as the
ecological spirit of Orthodoxy or Socratic speech.
The presentation of an indicative section of her work at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century aims to give the audience the opportunity to get to know and to enjoy her international award-winning films
on the big screen. |
