ACTIVITIES
INTERNATIONAL THESSALONIKI FILM FESTIVAL (NOVEMBER):
Organized every year in November, the festival focuses on
the discovery and promotion of new directors from all over
the world. Special attention is given to the latest Greek film
production and to the cinema of the Balkan region.
THESSALONIKI DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL - IMAGES OF THE 21st CENTURY
(MARCH):
During the last years the Thessaloniki Festivals activities
have been widened to include this important international event.
As its title, "Images of The 21st Century" indicates,
the festival is dedicated to documentaries that explore the
social and cultural developments in the world today.
VIDEODANCE FESTIVAL(SEPTEMBER):
From 2000 the Thessaloniki Film Festival has been holding
in September the Videodance Festival, dedicated to films related
to dance and choreography.
REGIONAL SCREENINGS:
During the International Thessaloniki Film Festival in November
and the Documentary Festival in March a selection of films
from the different sections are programmed in a number of towns
across northern Greece.
TRIBUTES
TRIBUTES TO FILM DIRECTORS AND ACTORS:
Throughout the year the Festival organizes in Thessaloniki
and Athens a series of tributes and retrospectives dedicated
to leading, world-acclaimed international filmmakers and actors.
In the past years the festival has paid homage to artists such
us Luis Buouel, Eric Rohmer, Francois Truffaut, Luchino Visconti,
Vittorio De Sica, Kenji Mizoguchi, and Roberto Benigni, to
name just a few.
OTHER TRIBUTES:
Apart from the tributes mentioned above, the Thessaloniki
Festival includes in its annual events tributes to the latest
film production of a specific country or region of the world,
as well as special programmes around a subject of interest.
Among these are "Women Directors in The British Cinema", "Tribute
to The Italian Comedy", "Panorama of Gay & Lesbian
Films", "Tribute to The Iranian Cinema", "Iberoamerican
Film Festival, etc.
