The overwhelming violinstrokes of Bela Bartok's Sonata for violin 3 and 4 the scenery of the Ghent Opera House foyer and the solemn, black and white cinemascope-framing, create a vast space in which dancer Fymiyo Ikeda can free all of her blissful energy. The visual flair of her subtle and sensual performance is matched by Greenaway's skilful editing in juxtaposing hard close-ups of Ikeda's face and long-shots of her vulnerable figure in the empty room.
