Il s'agit
2003/ 4'
director, photography,
editing: Antonin De Bemels. choreographer, performer:
Ugo Dehaes. music: The Syncopated Elevators Legacy + Petite Porte
de Bronze. production: Antonin De Bemels. Belgium
"In this video graphical proposition, De Bemels continues his exploration
of the physical and the visual limitations of movement, dance
and the human body. Central focus is on a static composite torso; it
seems to blend in with the rhythmically invigorating limbs of
dancer Ugo Dehaes, eyes closed, his head twisting like that of a puppet.
Il s'agit offers an illusory and complex metaphor, relating the
human body to machine-like patterns and shapes. In a cybernetic Ôballet
mŽcanique' of fluttering, wriggling arm gestures the organism
seems to develop and multiply itself, and then reassemble for a short but
peaceful moment." (Stoffel Debuysere, Argos)
Antonin De Bemels is a Belgian video and sound artist, born in
1975. He studied video art at Erg (Ecole de Recherche Graphique),
in Brussels,
from 1993 to 1997. There, he discovered video art and experimental
cinema. At about the same period, he started getting interested
in electronic music, and initiated his personal approach of videography,
based on the representation of body movements and the dynamic
relationship between sounds and images.

27 kilometer Drawing
2001/ 7'
director, music, photography, editing,
production: Lina Selander. Sweden
27 kilometer Drawing is wires filmed through a window of a
moving train. A road movie reduced to a black and white abstract,
which
shows stillness, time and movement in one single entirety.
The linear cinematic narration is reduced to lines and surfaces
to
a dramaturgic
point zero a minimalist diagram of cinematic action, but also
of emptiness and loneliness.
Lina Selander works with film, photography, text and sound.
Recurrent topics in her works are the metamorphosis of time
and memory,
their dissolving, compulsiveness and intensity. The video works
of Lina
Selander are about a merging of abstract with narration, she
decomposes and recomposes film as narrative structure. She
wants the works
to stage their own theoretic essence and being, and in doing
so, to
unveil a field where new meaning can emerge.
Lina Selander was born in 1973 in Stockholm. She has studied
Fine Arts and Photography in Sweden and in the UK. She lives
and works
in Stockholm, Sweden.

Inner pond
2001/ 6'
director, music, photography, editing,
production: Lina Selander. Sweden
Inner pond (A Thousand Sublime and Heroic Men) is a bent horizontal
split screen where the seam is the essence, the surface without
É the line, the meeting to which everything relates. The joint
bares
witness to the rectangular origin of the image. Two journeys É.
at night. An abstract landscape of fugitive colour memories in
a tranquil
self-referring meditation over surfaces, light and colour. Ponds,
wells, tarns, circles on water. The colour and being of drawing.
The sound is a compilation of several manipulated sounds, among
others the scratching from an old LP record and "If Ye Love me" by
T. Tallis, reversed and stretched. A voice sings: Save me.
Lina Selander was born in 1973 in Stockholm. She has studied Fine
Arts and Photography in Sweden and in the UK. She lives and works
in Stockholm, Sweden.
