VideoDance2007
VideoDance takes place in the city; where all unexpected encounters take place, where young artists make a mark on a blank surface, knowing that beauty is something ?eeting and enjoying it all the same; where there is still some breathing space for artistic creation. VideoDance takes place in the space where people have an identity, but that which they do has no label; where no one tries to convince us that he does “this” or the “other”, because what’s important is the fact that he creates and because he has something urgent to tell us. VideoDance takes place in the space where experiments are carried out, where the arts and the creators meet, where thoughts on reality are produced.
VideoDance breathes in the city, takes up an empty urban space and gives life to a building which has been sleeping for years. Offering space in a city square to park ZimmerFrei’s Panorama_Athina, it brings to the surface the double life of the city, the visible one and the one that exists in different dimensions and speeds, and participates in the creation of a singular work of art, especially for VideoDance and Athens. Organising Screeners in Athens, it makes space for a unique encounter for people who love Super 8 and for three groups, active in three different urban landscapes: Joystick, Opora and Kine.
VideoDance plays with time, just as time plays with it, and through the declencheur exhibition it presses the button on the cameras of Mette Edvardsen, Coti, ZimmerFrei, Alexandros Mistriotis, Katerina Paskhalidou, Miranda Pennel and Dimitris Alithinos. Leaving the artists to shape time and image in their own way, or in the way children play.
VideoDance opens its eyes and ears to listen to the stories told by Human Entities, people who make up the whole, through a performance: Claudia Dias, Mette Edvardsen, Hiroaki Umeda, Sola Takouni, Olia Lydaki, Tereza Papamichali. And it opens its ears to listen to the sounds of GardenBox, Andrea Dojmi and Port-royal, Ge-Suk Yeo, Novi_sad, Sancho, Nightshift, The curators, ZimmerFrei and Free Piece of Tape.
And in all this din of sound and image that surrounds us, VideoDance creates an island in the city and handles with great care, as something fragile, the gaze and hearing of people. Against the tide of the times, it persists in its view that there is a role in this game, the role of the curator, the role of the person who chooses to share with the public a theoretical thought on a series of artistic works and this role is tending to be replaced by the role of the “organizer”. The curator is like a guide taking travelers through the jungle: he/she has to know which path will take the audience into his/her mind, how he/she will guide the travelers in it and which path will lead them back out. Above all, he/she must know why he/she is doing it.
VideoDance hopes to create the conditions which will allow its audiences to be fascinated by the things they see, while at the same time to feel that they, as the recipients of image, are its ?nal judges – of the image itself and the load it is carrying. Ιmage and – even more so – sound, are things that we are taught to accept unconditionally. It is high time we understood that this is not so: that conditions exist and that we impose them ourselves. Ιmage is something which it is up to us to choose whether we will consume. Aesthetics is something very important, something worth ?ghting for, because “if you stand up for nothing, you will fall for anything.”
VideoDance opens its doors to all travelers, wayfarers, guests, and passersby, who are carrying in their luggage a thought on this inescapable reality, and welcomes them on a journey to the land of the dream and the vision that lays its claim. “Journey”, “encounter” and “exhibition” are its ingredients as always. And, of course, “celebration”, let’s not forget that.

Το VideoDance συμβαίνει στην πόλη. Εκεί όπου συμβαίνουν οι απρόσμενες συναντήσεις, εκεί όπου οι νέοι δημιουργοί χαράζουν ένα σημάδι πάνω σε μια λευκή επιφάνεια, γνωρίζοντας πως η ομορφιά είναι κάτι εφήμερο και απολαμβάνοντάς το. Εκεί όπου υπάρχει ακόμα ένας χώρος αναπνοής της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας. Το VideoDance συμβαίνει στο χώρο όπου οι άνθρωποι έχουν ταυτότητα, αλλά αυτό που κάνουν δεν έχει ετικέτα• εκεί όπου κανείς δεν προσπαθεί να πείσει ότι κάνει «αυτό» ή «το άλλο», γιατί το πιο σημαντικό είναι πως δημιουργεί και γιατί έχει κάτι επείγον να μας πει. Συμβαίνει στο χώρο του πειράματος, της συνάντησης των τεχνών και των δημιουργών, της παραγωγής σκέψης πάνω στην πραγματικότητα.
Το VideoDance αναπνέει μέσα στην πόλη, καταλαμβάνει έναν κενό αστικό χώρο και δίνει ζωή σ’ ένα κτήριο που κοιμόταν. Προσφέροντας χώρο σε μια πλατεία για να σταθμεύσει το Panorama_Athina των ZimmerFrei, φέρνει στην επιφάνεια τη διπλή ζωή της πόλης, αυτή που φαίνεται κι αυτή που υπάρχει σε άλλες διαστάσεις και ταχύτητες, και συμμετέχει στη δημιουργία ένος μοναδικού έργου τέχνης, ειδικά για το VideoDance και την Αθήνα. Δίνει το χώρο για μια μοναδική συνάντηση στους ανθρώπους που αγαπούν το Super 8 και σε τρεις ομάδες που δρουν σε τρία διαφορετικά αστικά τοπία: Joystick, Opora και Κίνε.
Το VideoDance παίζει με το χρόνο, όπως και ο χρόνος παίζει μαζί του, και με την έκθεση declencheur πατάει το κουμπί της κάμερας της Mette Edvardsen, του Coti, των ZimmerFrei, του Αλέξανδρου Μιστριώτη, της Κατερίνας Πασχαλίδου, της Miranda Pennel και του Δημήτρη Αληθεινού. Κι αφήνει τους δημιουργούς να πλάσουν το χρόνο και την εικόνα με τον τρόπο τους, ή με τον τρόπο που παίζουν τα παιδιά.
Το VideoDance ανοίγει μάτια και αυτιά για να ακούσει τις ιστορίες που έχουν να του αφηγηθούν με μια περφόρμανς Ανθρώπινες Μονάδες, άνθρωποι που απαρτίζουν το σύνολο: Claudia Dias, Mette Edvardsen, Hiroaki Umeda, Σόλα Τακούνι, Όλια Λυδάκη, Τερέζα Παπαμιχάλη. Και ανοίγει τα αυτιά του για ν’ ακούσει τους ήχους των GardenBox, του Andrea Dojmi και των Port-royal, της Ge-Suk Yeo, του Novi_sad, των Sancho, των Nightshift, των The curators, των ZimmerFrei και των Free Piece of Tape.
Και μέσα σε όλο το θόρυβο του ήχου και της εικόνας που μας περιβάλλει, το VideoDance φτιάχνει μια νησίδα μέσα στην πόλη και μεταχειρίζεται με προσοχή, ως εύθραυστο, το βλέμμα και την ακοή των ανθρώπων. Σε πείσμα των καιρών εμμένει στη θέση του πως υπάρχει ένας ρόλος σ’ αυτό το παιχνίδι, ο ρόλος του επιμελητή του προγράμματος, ο ρόλος αυτού που επιλέγει να μοιραστεί με το κοινό μια θεωρητική σκέψη πάνω σε μια σειρά καλλιτεχνικών έργων και που τείνει να αντικατασταθεί από το ρόλο του «οργανωτή». Ο επιμελητής του προγράμματος είναι σαν τον οδηγό των ταξιδιωτών μέσα στη ζούγκλα, πρέπει να ξέρει από ποια δίοδο θα βάλει το κοινό μέσα στη σκέψη του, πώς θα το ταξιδέψει και από πού θα το βγάλει. Και κυρίως πρέπει να ξέρει γιατί το κάνει.
Το VideoDance ελπίζει να δημιουργεί τις συνθήκες που επιτρέπουν στους θεατές του να γοητεύονται από αυτά που βλέπουν και ταυτόχρονα να νιώθουν ότι αυτοί, οι αποδέκτες της εικόνας, είναι οι τελικοί κριτές της, της ίδιας και του φορτίου που μεταφέρει. Η εικόνα και ακόμα περισσότερο ο ήχος είναι κάτι που μας μαθαίνουν να αποδεχόμαστε χωρίς όρους, και που πρέπει επιτέλους να καταλάβουμε ότι δεν είναι έτσι, ότι όροι υπάρχουν και τους επιβάλλουμε εμείς. Η εικόνα είναι κάτι που εναπόκειται στη δική μας κρίση να επιλέξουμε αν θα το καταναλώσουμε. Η αισθητική είναι κάτι πολύ σημαντικό, κάτι που αξίζει να πολεμήσουμε γι’ αυτό, γιατί «αν δεν υπερασπιστείς έστω κάτι, θα πέφτεις θύμα με το παραμικρό».
Το VideoDance ανοίγει τις πόρτες του σε όλους τους ταξιδιώτες, οδοιπόρους, φιλοξενούμενους, διαβάτες, που φέρνουν στην αποσκευή τους μια σκέψη πάνω σ’ αυτή την αναπόδραστη πραγματικότητα, και τους καλωσορίζει στο ταξίδι στο χώρο ονείρου και οράματος που διεκδικεί. «Ταξίδι», «συνάντηση» και «έκθεση» είναι πάντα τα υλικά του. Και βέβαια «γιορτή», δεν το ξεχνάμε.
Ευχαριστώ θερμά όλους τους συνενόχους, συνοδοιπόρους και συνεπιβάτες σ’ αυτό το ταξίδι του 2007.
