Barbara Rubin and the Exploding NY Underground

Barbara Rubin and the Exploding NY Underground

21st TDF: Greek Premiere

The short film Christmas on Earth caused a sensation when it first screened in the underground art scene of New York City, in 1964, introducing an 18-year-old female artist who dared to be a rebel. A close friend of Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, and Allen Ginsberg, Barbara Rubin lived on the edge during the 60s, standing out in a male-dominated world. Through her letters to her beloved friend Jonas Mekas (the recently deceased legend of avant-garde cinema), the documentary portrays a bigger-than-life character, a passionate woman, who died mysteriously at 35.
