Carmine Street Guitars

Carmine Street Guitars

21st TDF: Greek Premiere

In the heart of Greenwich Village, once center of the New York bohemia, one can find a store and workshop that remains resilient to the encroaching gentrification: Carmine Street Guitars. There, custom guitar maker Rick Kelly builds handcrafted guitars out of reclaimed wood from old churches, schools and other local buildings. Reclaiming the “backbone of the city,” Kelly’s unique guitars have become the stuff of legend. Featuring a cast of prominent musicians and artists, including Jim Jarmusch, this documentary pays tribute to the man who broke boundaries as a guitar builder, while examining a vanishing way of life.
