A trivial everyday incident in an African village results in the imprisonment of an 8-year-old orphan girl in a witch camp in the middle of the desert. In this camp – part-sanctuary, part-prison, and part tourist attraction – she has to stay tied with a white ribbon to a tree, or else she’s threatened to turn into a rabbit. Following experiential research and a long stay in a camp of this kind, a brave first-time woman director talks about the core dilemma of female emancipation: Do you struggle to remain alive no matter what? Or do you fight for freedom at any cost?
