A sequel to a landmark of Romanian cinema continues the genealogy of the peasants’ family that tries to preserve some time-honored values, setting the story in the post-World War II era and focusing on the figure of Niculae, the youngest son of the patriarch Ilie Moromete. Niculae is the only one of the children who has gone to school and what he wants most in this world is to finish his studies. Maybe this way he can one day recount the times when the entire order of the village’s world, where the most important thing was to own land and work it, changed upon the arrival of the communist regime and collectivization...

Stere Gulea

Stere Gulea was born in 1943 in Constanța. He is of Aromanian origin. Apart from his best known feature Morometii / The Moromete Family (1987), he also co-directed the documentary Piata Universitatii – Romania / University Square – Romania (1991), a presentation of the one-month long rally in University Place, Bucharest, where Romanian people demonstrated against the neo-communist government which had taken power after the toppling of communist dictator Ceausescu. After 1989, Stere Gulea became a respected civil society activist.
