22nd TDF: Greek Premiere

For young girls in Afghanistan, life is no picnic: an endless chain of prohibitions imposed by religious fanaticism and patriarchy renders even the little pleasures of life a distant dream. Yet, glimpses of hope emerge in the most somber places. In war-torn Kabul, a group of teenage girls from disadvantaged neighborhoods are taught how to read, write and… skateboard, as part of NGO Skateistan’s educational programs, which arm Afghan girls with the most powerful weapons: self-confidence and self-respect. A touching tale of resistance as well as a labor of love to these brave ladies who refuse to give in.
