Rafael is an attractive and ambitious man who works as a shop-assistant in a department store. He is convinced he has a great career in front of him and that his fellow-workers envy him his success with the girls. But a serious obstacle blocks his road to success: Don Antonio, a senior employee, turns out to be an important rival standing in the way of Rafael’s ambition to become head of department.After a heated discussion with Rafael, Don Antonio accidentally dies. Rafael tries to hide the facts, not knowing that he is being watched by an unexpected witness, Lourdes, an ugly and insignificant shop-assistant who is secretly in love with him. It is she who calls the shots now and without a moment’s hesitation she faces him with a terrible proposition: if he doesn’t want her to spill the beans, he must marry her.

Alex de la Iglesia
He was born in Bilbao in 1965.A philosophy graduate, he published cartoons in various magazines while still at university. He shot one and only short, Mirindas asesinas, which acquired cult status. Pedro Almod½var took upon himself to produce De la Iglesia’s first feature film, Mutant Action, a true novelty in Spanish cinema. His second film, The Day of the Beast, won six Goya awards and firmly established De la Iglesia as one of the more original filmmakers in recent Spanish cinema
