The Hourglass

Andreas Sam is a young writer searching for his roots and the memory of his father who disappeared in the maelstrom of World War II. As he roams the labyrinth of the past, instead of finding answers he is faced with more questions. And thus, a journey into the past becomes a list of feelings and doubts. Helplessness, homelessness, constant homesickness and a desire to belong to one person and one place: this is the portrait of a citizen of Central Eastern Europe, living among various religions and cultures and often forced into minority situations. Kis's novel, retold with the help of visual means, makes the audience face the paranoia of nationalism and the consequences of ideological blindness.

Szabolcs Tolnai

He was born in Subotica (former Yugoslavia), in 1971 and studied Film and Theater Direction at the Academy of Theater and Film Art, Novi Sad (Vojvodina, Serbia). Summer Movie won the Special Jury Prize at the Independent Hungarian FF, the documentary The Anthem of the Youth won the Best Film Award at the Krsko, Slovenia IFF, while Face Down won the Special Jury Prize at the National Hungarian FF.
