Night and the City

Harry Fabian is running for dear life in a pitch black setting. He wants to make it big and doesn’t care where the money comes from that’ll help him succeed. He’s always stealing money from his girlfriend, Mary, a singer at the Silver Fox, a nightclub owned by the repulsive Phil Nosseross. But Harry has a plan: he wants to take control of the professional wrestling game from veteran wrestler Gregorius. When Gregorius dies, Harry’s plan will be revealed through a fleeting glance of hell, distorted visual effects and dark symbolism. The Night and the City is a masterly combination of two filming styles: the lighting of expressionism and the cinematography of the film noir by auteur Jules Dassin.
