When Dominican-born pitcher Miguel “Sugar” Santos gets his break to come to the United States to play baseball, he finds himself in small-town Iowa, struggling to prove himself on the mound while adapting to a new language and culture.

Ryan Fleck

He was born in Berkeley and graduated in 1999 from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Film Production. His film Half Nelson premiered in 2006 and went on to win numerous prizes, including three Gotham Awards and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Anna Boden

She was born in Boston and graduated in 2002 from Columbia University with a BA in Film Studies and English Literature. She was the co-writer of Ryan Fleck’s awarded filmHalf Nelson and has collaborated with him on various occassions on scriptwriting and direction.
