The 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival is welcoming one of the most renowned film directors of European cinema, Academy Award winner Fernando Trueba, and kicks off with his latest film, They Shot the Piano Player (2023). A journalist investigates the disappearance of the Brazilian pianist Francisco Tenório Júnior amidst Buenos Aires in an animated docudrama that unfolds like a political thriller. The Spanish filmmaker will attend the ceremony to present his film to the audience and will be bestowed with the Festival’s honorary Golden Alexander for his overall contribution to cinema.
